Spam spiders, e-mail harvesters, robots or bots. They go by many different names but they have one purpose.
They are computer programs that trawl the Internet, going from one website to the next, looking for e-mail addresses. Every e-mail address they find is added to their list so that spammers can then use this list to flood your inbox with offers such as:-
“Rolex watches for a couple of hundred quid.” “You’ve won a lottery you didn’t enter, so send us all your bank details, including passwords etc. so we can transfer the money in.” “These pills will transform your life.” “Invest in these shares and you’ll be rich by next week.”
You know the ones, we all get them. Anti-spam filters can only do so much to protect us from the junk. The best trick is to hide your address from these pests. This is what I have done, (and many other webmasters are also doing), using something called JavaScript.
If your computer can’t display what is in the box below, you either don’t have JavaScript installed or your Internet Security Software has turned it off.
